Empty Bellies and Hard Hearts
So. How was your weekend? Mine was... interesting.
Friday's comic, the one outlining the specifics about SNAP, as I've come to understand them, was viewed over 1.5 million times.
1.5 million. That's, uhhh... a lot. And the views just keep on coming.
This experience has been very humbling. With exposure of thais nature I really needed to be 1001% accurate with the facts in my 'toon but I fumbled one or two of the points I was making. <blush>
While not technically incorrect many people took issue with my assertion, in the second panel, that $360 per month was the maximum amount each household receives in food assistance from SNAP. In truth, many "households" receive way more than $360 but because of space limitations in a six-panel 'toon I had to short-hand the government's definition of an average household, which is 1.9 persons. So at the gummint's allocation of $177 per person, the that's about $360.
The second public quibble was aimed at the first panel of the 'toon, which claims that tax-payers pay $36, on average, each year to fund SNAP. Many excited keyboard warriors did their own math and arrived at numbers between $1000 and $6000 per tax-payer. I'm sticking with $36 because it's the one that continually came up in my research.
Even though I was modestly embarrassed with my "errors" I received thousands of compliments on raising awareness of SNAP and the problem of public hunger in this country. Hunger which is being purposely exacerbated by a pompous, pumpkin-headed, rapacious rapist using children, the disabled, and the elderly as pawns in his demented political games.
Beyond all the attention the best part of the weekend was the landslide of new viewers and followers. I really hope they see what they like and decide to stick around.
Sort of like you, my Pencil-Neck amigos! Excelsior!

One more thing... I'm just a crazy-ass retired commercial artist and my budgets are pretty tight these days but
for the rest of this year I'll be donating all of my Patreon earnings to the North Texas Food Bank. It's not a lot, as I don't actively pursue new patrons, but it's the least I can do. Please consider supporting your local food bank, too.
And fuck Trump!
