Sphere of Influence

Yes, this cartoon was from simpler times, when I could sit back and draw goofy shit while waiting for Obamacare to become a reality.

Cartoon is from September 18, 2009.

---------

Manchin and Sinema: "We're both very critical of the way Hillary, uh, we mean Biden has handled Benghazi, uh, we mean the infrastructure bill."

----------------

As usual Facebook half-assed the company's new name.

It should have been "Meta-stasis".

----------------

“If you maintain a consistent political position long enough you'll eventually be accused of treason.”
- Mort Sahl (1927-2021)

I recently had a much younger person than myself ask me who were my favorite comedians. He wasn't expecting names, those whom I consider seminal to modern comedy, of performers like Jonathan Winters, Nichols and May, Lenny Bruce, Bob Newhart or Mort Sahl.

"Who's Mort Sahl?" he asked.

Sigh.

I have a huge collection of over 300 comedy albums, which of course includes copies of everything Mort Sahl committed to vinyl. His performances were unique in that they offered intimidatingly brilliant social and political insight that was almost impossible to relate the next day at the water cooler. He didn't joke about traffic or his wife's cooking. He challenged preconceived notions delivered as sly asides, rejecting the punch line, choosing instead to cause you laugh at the absurdity inherent in the chosen premise.

And he never cursed on stage.

He was the first comedian to make a comedy record album, to first to be featured on the cover of Time magazine, the first win a Grammy. He was the lynchpin from which modern comedy revolved and evolved.

And he died Tuesday at the age of 93.

I could go on but I think I'll leave the final words to Mr. Saul:

“You haven't lived until you've died in California.”

--------------

Paraphrasing Mr. Saul: "America is the only country where being a Nazi is still legal."

--------------

This is the final rerun of my 'toons for the month of October. Thanks for hanging in there and I hope you enjoyed my choice of recycled goodies. I've already got ideas for November so have a great Halloween weekend and we'll see you on the other side.

Google Chow (Eat hearty, little Google-bots!)

t was an innocent mistake but the last thing Glinda's mom expected to see when she snapped on the light was her little Witch of the North dry-bubbling her prom date.

The progressive editorial cartoon about Glinda, the good witch of the north... and dry-humping.
